Is It Possible To Stop Drinking?

We’ve all done it, arrived home after a busy day at work and want nothing but to sit down and relax. Even when we want to stop drinking, but what better way to do it than with a bottle of your favourite red wine. Afterall, you’ve earned it, right?

You tell yourself only one glass, but isn’t amazing how quickly one becomes two becomes three. It’s a little bit embarrassing, but hey, we’ve all been there.

And look, you’re not a heavy drinker, you don’t get drunk. So what’s the big deal anyway?

Let’s have a story.

Is it wine o’clock yet?

Now – I frequently hear my friends ask “is it wine o’clock yet?” and the answer is – “of course – it’s 5 o’clock somewhere!” We just grab a bottle at the supermarket on the way home with the rest of the shopping, or buy online and voila, there’s a bottle waiting for us when we get home.

And remember, this is a relatively new thing, particularly for women. In my mother’s day, the only time I saw them really drink was when they got together with neighbours for some afternoon sherry! But wine o’clock? It wasn’t really a thing.

The problem is that after the first glass, it’s so easy to have another, and before long we get into the nightly habit of having a glass of wine, which in turn saps our energy and the night is wasted. But does anyone really want to quit drinking anyway?

Double Your Pleasure

Even the wine glasses these days are bigger. Some can hold a whole bottle of wine – that way we don’t have to get up to keep filling it!

Medical research has shown that the biggest problem of regularly drinking alcohol is that it’s a risk factor for various cancers, high blood pressure and heart disease. Not to mention, it could undo any hard work you’re doing to lose weight

We all know it’s not good for us, yet trying to cut down is sometimes hard to do. But the clock is ticking and unless you break the habit, you may become another health statistic.

Ready To Stop Drinking?

You have programmed yourself to drink alcohol in the same way that someone programmes themselves to drive a car. It just happens on auto-pilot.

If you try to just stop cold-turkey drinking at your current level, it feels impossible – like trying to climb Mt. Everest without enough oxygen…or without training…or even a warm coat! Nope, I’ll have a nice glass of wine instead, please and thank you!

So what does this have to do with hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a fully conscious deep relaxation, in which the mind is more able to take on positive suggestions – allowing you to change habits and behavioural patterns.

The drinking habit is simply a program in your mind, it just runs in the background, right on auto-pilot. The safe, hypnotherapy relaxation will help re-train your mind, its kinda like updating the software on your computer.

Throughout the process, you will only make the changes you want to make, so you remain totally in control. This will allow you to create new drinking habits.

Alcohol consumption often builds up over time and can become a habit, hard to break with willpower alone. Increasing alcohol consumption can creep up on you as a relief to stress.

Take back the control

Bereavement, a prolonged illness, a financial crisis, work pressure, being a parent dealing with children, relationship issues, running your own business, general pressures of modern living and social drinking or pressure from fellow workers or friends.

Most people do not want to stop drinking altogether. Concerned about health issues or tired of feeling sluggish, they would like to cut down to a safe limit. Other people find their relationships are being affected by the effects of excess alcohol.

This is hypnotherapy to stop drinking, and it’s a treatment that offers a solution to get you back in control. After a few months of cutting back some people feel ready to let it go altogether.
